The History of The Perth & District Fuchsia Group.

In 1984 Emma Scott, now Chairperson of Perth in Bloom Committee,
arranged a meeting in the area and attracted around 70 fuchsia enthusiasts.
Attending the meeting were the late Ron Ewart, Secretary of the British Fuchsia
Society, and his wife the late Jean who became president of the B.F.S.
Thro’ their considerable experience and guidance the first steps in forming
a local group were taken and now meet monthly, except December and January.

The objectives of the group are to promote interest in,
and encourage and improve the cultivation of the fuchsia.

There is a wide variety of speakers at the monthly meetings covering most aspects
of gardening and the cultivation of plants, but always with the emphasis on general growing, and for those interested in showing fuchsias.
Instruction is always available from our more experienced members, and speakers.

The group is affiliated to the British Fuchsia Society,
the British Fuchsia Society – Scotland,
the Scottish Gardeners’ Forum and
The Federation of Scottish Fuchsia Societies.
Although no meeting is held in January, there is an annual social
evening in the form of a dinner which is held in a local hotel.
An Annual Show is held during August where members take the opportunity
to display plants which they have grown throughout the year.
The result is a wonderful display of fuchsias much admired by members of the public.
