A. BUSH. A bush is a plant which must be seen to have been developed on a single stem not exceeding 1.5” (38 mm).
B. SHRUB. A shrub is an exhibit with more than one shoot emerging from below the compost level.
It can also be grown from more than one plant.
C. A FULL BASKET. Is to be top planted only and may contain more than one plant. The basket must be of open mesh construction and be commercially manufactured as a hanging basket. The top must be circular in shape and not exceed 16” (406 mm) in diameter, the maximum depth allowed is 9” (229 mm). NB Full baskets may have flat bottoms, solid bases and straight sides. Stakes and ties are allowed but must be inconspicuous.
D. A FRAMEWORK. However fashioned, is not allowed for bush, shrub, basket, hanging pots and all standards. A framework however, may be used to support or train other shapes, e.g. fans, espalier, ring etc. – as in the current B.F.S. rule book classification.
E. A FULL STANDARD. Must be not less than 30” (762 mm) not more than 42” (1067 mm) Of clear stem.
A HALF STANDARD. Must not be less than 18” (457 mm) not more than 30” (762 mm) of clear stem.
A QUARTER STANDARD. Must not be less than 10” (254 mm) nor more than 18” (457 mm) of clear stem.
A MINI STANDARD. Must not be less than 6” (154 mm) nor more than 10” (254 mm).
these dimensions refer to the clear stem between compost level and the underside of the first branch.
F. PLANT POTS The vertical length of pots up to 7” (178 mm) must not exceed the diameter atb the top and the pot must have a distinct taper. The diameter of a pot is the inside measurement as near to the top as possible. The colour of the pot must be terracotta. The more straight sided “container” , “shrub” or half pots are excluded.
G. HANGING POTS A hanging pot must be one which is commercially manufactured as a hanging pot. Ordinary plant pots with hangers are prohibited. N.B. Hanging Pots must have solid sides.
H. TRIPHYLLA SECTION Plants in the Triphylla classes must have typical Triphylla shaped flowers and may be axillary or terminal flowered.
I. A BEGINNER Is an exhibitor who has not won a First, Second or Third Prize at any previous fuchsia show.
J. A Novice is an exhibitor who has won a first prize, with the exception of a beginners class at any previous Fuchsia show.
K. ORNAMENTAL FOLIAGE SECTION. Plants must have two or more distinct colours in leaf tissue. LeafK structure may be veined with a distinctly different colour than the leaf tissue or be one single colour, e.g. Bright yellow. Green leaves veined or not, are not allowed. Flowers and large buds should be removed.
L. INTERMEDIATE CLASS. Exhibitors who have not won a trophy in Members Classes except Beginners or Novice Classes.
